Misunderstandings

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 12:00 AM
Since my last journal was obviously misunderstood by some people.
I would tell you what happened to me, but it is very very personal and outside of DA, and I do not want to bring my problems here. That was why I did not elaborate; let's just say I was swindled out of an important opportunity by someone I trusted. The only reason I posted anything was to let people know that sadly, I do not even know yet if or when I will be able to fulfill my art promises since trying to take care of all that's going on in my life right now will make it hectic; I want more than anything to be around, so I will do my utmost in that respect, but it hurts me that again I am going through a tumbling phase in life outside DA that won't let me do as much as I wanted. I should have taken the time to breathe first, understand what happened and then write a calmer journal like this one, but it was the first time I ever lost something really important to me career-wise and it was a blow too sudden to process.
Now, no one is obligated to read this journal, and I am not writing it for sympathy or to get comments or any sort of thing. I only wanted to inform everyone who expect things of me that I do not know yet when things will calm down enough for me to draw again and be around. Could be today, in a week, in a year... I just don't know yet. This wasn't a `Bwaaah I am leaving DA zomg` as some people seem to have thought, and I'd appreciate not being insulted when I am going through too much already. I do not want wars here, or anywhere, and so flaming comments will be, as ever, ignored and deleted.
I did not want to hurt anyone's feelings, and if that happened by accident I apologize. No one has to comment, no one is obligated to offer any support, this is just to inform everyone of what's happening to me right now and why I might suddenly seem to `vanish`- it won't be because I wanted to. Again, I will try my utmost to keep in touch and support the people who have supported me here, and I will get to everything I promised first chance I get. The people who have been around for me here are never far from my mind, and if I came here to tell my watchers that I am hurting right now it's because I thought at least some of them might care. If I have to apologize for anything right now, it would be that I did not write this journal first, since obviously the other one cast me in a bad light. But it is your choice to stick around or not, and read this or not, and think of me as Lucifer or not. I just wanted to say thank you to the ones who didn't up and snap at me, and understood what I am all about without instantly thinking the very worst they could. It's to those people I write these lines, and hope to make up for that as best I can.
I think that covers just about everything,
-PhantomJustice

Quiz for Horse/Unicorn Lovers ;)

Tue Sep 29, 2009, 11:09 AM
Out of curiosity, which one of your characters would you ride? Knowing their personalities, quirks and such, what would the ride be like?
I'll go first to give you an example:
Justice (mauve stallion): When he was younger, he'd be a liability since he'd run off to the rescue of his loved ones without blinking twice- even if they were not really being threatened at the time. Now he's more mature, he'd make a steady, reliable mount, obedient not to the heel but his rider's very thought; flashy gaits too, either intentional or unintentional, and a warm, caring personality.
Llorona (lavender mare): She was always fleet of hoof, and due to abuse from a past mate bound to shy off easily; ever since she met the love of her life and had the twins, however, she mellowed out, and grown into a fierce and brave mother. She'd certainly make a fast ride, probably a joyful one for one who enjoys speed, but not too bad on endurance either.
Lythian (multihued stallion): A youth still by all standards, but with the best parts of his parents' personalities. Might have a mind of his own and overjump the obstacle course, and may not be as big and heavy as a classic dressage type champion, but he'd be too lovely to look at though the aids would really need to be light on him so he won't be ruined for life.
Absynthe (blue and green pintaloosa): The OH CRAP of rides.XD Stubborn, flirty, bratty, mind of his own, would yank away the bit and drag you off for the freaking hell of it since what sort of point is there (in his book) to prance around in circles? Battle or shmex another of the horses in the arena- or two, or ten- now, that would have been more to his liking. He'd be the absolute nightmare of the stables, unless the rider was equal to struggling every step of the way for the hell of it.
Alorinel (jewel-colored, sparkling rump and legs): Might make a good pleasure ride as long as not much more than a fast gallop was expected out of him. Wouldn't last in endurance, would balk to race alongside others, would refuse exercise in a closed arena in favor of the freedom of the outdoors. A sweet personality but in need of guidance most of the time, to feel like he's being protected by his rider, so that would take confidence in the saddle and a cool head.
Valerian (mahogany dapple): A little old to be pushed too hard, though he'd push that great heart of his to the limit to bring joy. An excellent child/amateur's ride, forgiving mistakes, ignoring yanking on the bit, no bad traits whatsoever. Where do you think Justice inherited it all from ;) No longer able to go through a rigorous competition though.
Mihlal (sea-colored stallion): An excellent ride, but trained a certain way and bound to fail to obey commands from the heel or hand unless given the way he was taught; other than that though, smooth and silky, so light on his dancer's feet he'd feel like a cushion of air.
Melphalan (silver-brindled blue stallion): Prowess is the word. Pure raw power, like sitting on a runaway train, but with a steady hand on the bit the ride could prove intoxicating and addictive; would need a rider that can go for miles just as he can, though, certainly no newbies.

So, what do you think? ;)

Things that Suck

Fri Sep 18, 2009, 9:34 AM
Lately, everything in my life seems to be going wrong. And I mean everything, in the worst kind of way. I don't want pity, and I won't be answering any questions since I can't deal with that too right now, but. I want to feel that I am not alone. So this is a ranting corner, people. What bugs you worst about your life? What do you really hate, really wish it wouldn't happen the way it did/does? Has anything happened in your life that made you feel truly sick and want to scream out `WHY ME?` This is your chance to just say it out loud, so to speak, to someone who'll truly listen. A chance to just... let it out. I know it's very personal, but you don't have to use names or anything of the sort. Just vent.
I'll be waiting to hear what you have to say,

Gift Art :)

Fri Sep 11, 2009, 11:47 PM
In case some people don't know what this is about, you can learn more here [link]
It's a week or so sooner than the deadline, but since it has been a rough time for me I thought this might help me think of happier things, like being free enough to make the gift art I promised... So, have you thought of what you want to ask of me yet?
Remember, if you ask for something horse-related, it will probably be finished faster ;)
1. :iconloathsomegargoyle:- I owe you the Petshop-Phantom crossover, and that also will be finished after the 23d but your characters haven't gotten nearly enough love from me, so ask away :)
2. :iconamaris--miakoda:
3. :iconsaphireflames:
4. :iconeclipsetheshadow:
5. :iconunicorndreams:
6. :icongatana:
7. :icontahru-chan:
8. :iconzapz:
9. :iconmoonfeather:- I have a very special idea in mind for you, but if you have something in mind you'd really want to see from me, feel free to ask :)
10.:iconmisschievious:- I know I owe you the two gifts from my contest as well, and I promise I won't forget that ;) But drawing for you never tires me, so ask away :)
11.:iconsilverglass19:
12.....

If I forgot anyone, please let me know and I'll add you :D
If there are more people who feature me before the 23d of September, they will be added on this giftlist. I will be taking no more requests until I wrap this up, so you have eleven days left to feature me and be added to it. ;)
Oh, by the way, know of any clubs that might care for my art? Let me know :)

Featured Artists Corner ;)

Tue Sep 8, 2009, 10:49 PM
:iconmisschievious:
A wonderful person, and a very good friend ever since we both first showed up on DA :) Though how much she's improved since then is staggering. Every piece she makes manages to surpass the last one, which is all an artist could aspire to, isn't it? ;) Go look, go look:
[link] Such a beautiful picture, and not just because it's my Justice ;) There's just something about it that makes me go back to look at it over and over
[link] The amount of attention that went in this drawing. I swear all her love for the series went in this one, and even if you don't know where it came from it's all the more fun to figure out the little story going on among the absolutely gorgeously depicted characters.
[link] I could rant on and on about the clever selection of background, the sweet expression of the character, the lovely pose... but I'll just let the image speak for itself. ;)
[link] I couldn't resist:P Another picture she made for me for a contest. You can guess who was the winner, I think... Wouldn't you gloat if someone had drawn something this beautiful just for you? Oh, for those sweet, sweet eyes, the eye-popping detail of the hairpins and that soft caress of color, bringing it to life.
[link] How stunning is this. It's his gorgeous features and expression that captivated me, but all those feathers deserve recognition. *offers ice for misschievious's drawing hand*
[link] I love pictures that tell a little story; interesting hairstyles too, and the most amazing part- this is traditional, pencil art... I fall over just to think of how long it must have taken. So go give her lots of love ;)

:iconamaris--miakoda:
An artist with lots and lots of baby hedgehogs XD Heheh, nevermind. She's friendly, creative, fun to be around and talented even if she does not believe it sometimes ;) Also... she's going through a hard time right now, so go give her some well-deserved support.
[link] Such beautiful atmosphere, the trees fading in the mist like that... straight out of a Black Beauty/Silver Brumby sort of film, for those who know what I'm talking about ;)
[link] This may look `simple` at first glance but there is nothing simple about it;the style is so beautiful and original, and I would have put this portrait before hundreds of same-old Spirit-style copies. I do not mean to hurt any feelings, I understand that it is much easier to use a style that is well-loved (and of course will get instant :+fav: by the majority) but I am more for encouraging an artist's personal style, something that can be their trademark and loved and appreciated as their very own work, and not because of using something popular.
[link] Aside the intricate story beneath, this artwork lingered in my memory for its flowing yet proud pose and color selection.
[link] I know I'd have loved to use this as a bookmark; her trademark character, Lightning, with his beautiful curls in all his masculine majesty. She has another portrait of him I like, but you'll just have to go seek it out ;)
[link] This was done with a *MOUSE*. :faint: I don't think anything else could be said, not if you have ever tried it; but even if it had been made with a tablet it would be mindblowing. Such incredibly `clean` lines (it takes a `powerful hand`, one very familiar with its subject to accomplish that) a carefully selected angle, and the play of colors between the bgr and character bringing him out and giving him life. My favorite part is his eye and soft muzzle.
[link] THE FEETS!!!!!!! 8D

:iconloathsomegargoyle:
Someone very close to me, an amazing, supportive, understanding person that words would never be enough to describe. An incredible talent in soulful writing, and you can have a sneak peek of that here:[link] It also happens to be a favorite piece of mine for how that pose captures all that pain.. and the fur must have taken eternities to finish. My favorite part is how soft the inside of the ears looks.
[link] The wolf is so well-drawn in this, has such a werewolf feeling to it and of course I adore the pose.
[link] I hope by choosing this one to encourage more drawings of unicorns; an original style and very dynamic pose.
[link] Look for the quotes, oh so subtle, concealed and yet in plain sight... and that beautiful depiction of Beast.

:iconscaramouche2802:
I have only recently stumbled by this person's gallery, so I cannot tell you much about them personality-wise; all I can say is they have a beautiful gallery that deserves your visit/support :)
[link] My favorite from their gallery, it looks like the unicorn is standing in a storm of falling petals; the colors of the unicorn's coat and those of the bgr compliment each other, so that the green is practically glowing. And the pose gives all the more the impression of weathering out that flower storm, bringing the whole thing to life :)Plus, I love how the hair was done, so silky.
[link] This looks like an illustration straight out of a mythology/equine adventure book. The coat highlights are subtle but lovely, and the care that must have gone into each and every feather to make them look so realistic alone deserves recognition. That open mouth reminds me of ancient sculptures/drawings of whinnying horses, you can almost hear the sound, and of course what impressed me most is the bgr. The texture is a clever touch that makes this overall the more appealing. PS: I love his feather crown ;)
[link] There is a small series of such pictures up, and it was really difficult to pick only one to feature. Capturing them at the exact moment makes one expect the horse in the image will keep moving; dynamic poses that would be very helpful to an artist both in learning equine anatomy and being inspired. Ah,but if she did behave, then there wouldn't be beautiful pictures from the event to admire, now, would there? ;)
[link] I have wanted to have a character like that (made after the African Wild Dog, they have such bright colors) but it seems someone beat me to it XD A lovely pose, no wonder it was selected as an avatar ;) All in all, he's a very handsome boy, and even though this was a character portrait with a fairly simple bgr it is one of my favorites in their gallery. Maybe they'll let me draw him some day ;)

:iconxcryptorchid:
[link] Though I loved all this person's winged horses, the first picture my eyes were drawn to when visiting their gallery was this one. The beautiful, vibrant colors, the powerful pose, the movement of the hair and especially the angle of that horn. I hope they finish it some day, but even if they don't, I love how it looks as it is.
[link] This is so beautifully made, especially the wings; I cannot believe it has not gotten more recognition. It is obvious that the artist did their utmost to sculpt the character out with color little by little, and did so with lots of love; the wings and horn are so well proportioned too.
[link] I found the combination of this filly with those long wings interesting; she looks like she's ready to tap the ground with her hooves, lifting off while the patter of that sound still echoes. I liked how it was framed and presented too :)
[link] I loved the markings on that character, and how well the wing colors match. :)
So go and give them some support already ;) So many beautiful equines where the above came from ;)
